On Thursday I co-hosted a forum along with other East Side Democratic leaders in which all 13 Democratic candidates for NYC Public Advocate spoke. The forum was at the New York New Church on E. 35th bet. Lexington and Park. All 13 candidates took questions from the audience on topics ranging from housing and transportation to how they would use the somewhat obscure post of Public Advocate to promote progressive policies in NYC.
After the forum the members of the Four Freedoms Democratic Club who were in attendance voted on whom we would endorse in the February special election, and selected Council Member Jumaane Williams. “I’m honored to be endorsed by the Four Freedoms Democratic Club, which has a proven track record of advocating for grassroots, progressive campaigns,” said Council Member Williams after the vote. “As an activist elected official who has long fought for equity and justice for all, I look forward to working with members of the club to ensure our people-powered campaign to be New York’s next Public Advocate continues to grow in the weeks ahead.”
